Shiksha stages

Shraddhavan (Pravesh)

At Shraddhavan stage, the students are expected to

  • Trusts his teacher’s intentions and instructions and actively participates in the schools activities, learns to see SP as pre pre-eminent shiksha guru and demonstrates respect toward him and his teaching. Can briefly tell who is SP and what he has done.
  • Chant 1-4 rounds of Hare Krishna Mahamantra daily and Keep focus during kirtan.
  • Hear attentively not interrupting teachers or seniors, asks permission to speak/questions.
  • Assists in cleaning the school campus with attention and care, keeps personal belongings and gurukul premises neat and clean. Knows Mayapur, Vrindavan, prominent dhamas through pictures and have access to Krishna, SP, and Chaitanya art books and can recognize the pastimes by seeing the pictures.
  • Follows the proper etiquette in the temple, punctual and fully present while greeting the deities, learns to see the deities as center of all gurukula activities.
  • Demonstrates interest in learning and knows the alphabet and numbers in both English & Hindi. Completes prescribed syllabus/ study quota and performs at acceptable level of sastric/ academic performance.
  • Executes his responsibilities without silly excuses or complaints and learns to respond respectfully even when not meeting personal needs/wants. No stealing food/ other items. Asks what is required (food/ warm clothes etc) without shame/ guilt.
  • Performs services with vitality. No laziness.
  • Avoids Impropriety and shows basic respect to friends, objects, animals and plants.
  • Keeps his dress, eating utensils, eating place and study environment clean. Kaya(body) externals clean.
  • Memorizes basic rules of conduct, is able to explain and practice them.
  • punctual, clean, respect, seek permission before using things of others, maintain order, speak in proper way and volume, remain within school boundaries, no abusive language and profane words, no bullying and no violent behaviour. Train them in properly respecting parents.
  • Memorizes basic mantras for tilak, mangalacarana, and chant daily prayers (invocation mantras, prasadam prayers, etc.) with proper respect and posture, show in kitchen alter how to offer bhoga.
  • assist in cleaning, cooking, set up/ wind up of events, prasadam serving - juice/ water, water plants, pluck flowers, tulsi.

Saadhak (Prarambh)

At Sadhaka stage, the students are expected to

  • Appreciates his teacher’s good qualities and services, appreciates/ praises his friends for their qualities and services and to appreciates the acaryas life and teachings - all the alter acaryas(List 1 of MSP)
  • Chants 8 rounds daily with focus and participate in kirtans with enthusiasm
  • asks questions in submissive spirit, Is able to understand and can explain what he has heard and read
  • Gets introduced to prominent Dhamas by hearing about them and learns to see the Gurukula also as Dhama.
  • tulsi seva, back up in deity dept, make garlands, wicks,
  • Memorize basic mantras(BS KMV ) for preaching, vyakarana and mathematics and is able to interpret texts and answer questions by himself.
  • Perform his services thinking on other’s wellbeing (teachers and colleagues). Uses intelligence along with appropriate amount of energy. Does not steal credit of others service.
  • Follows codes of behavior with faith in his teacher’s words
  • Maintains healthy habits when speaking, interacting with others, eating and with his personal belongings. Kaya + vaca clean
  • Explains the meaning of the mantras and songs daily used in the school program
  • Serves prasadam with proper mood and care. Goes for procuring/ purchasing/ begging.
  • Learns proper athiti satkar.
  • Does all the previous services without follow up
  • Understand the meaning of 16 anarthas, sincerely tries to avoid Dhama aparadha

Upanayana (Prabhupada Ashray)

  • Engages others in services, studies and activities with maturity
  • Chants 16 rounds and understands that the chanting is the most serious spiritual commitment in his life.
  • Reflects on how to connect different topics with Krishna Consciousness, understanding the meaning of Bhakti Anucana.
  • Knows different pastimes of the Lord in the holy dhams (Vrindavan, Navadvip and Puri) and is able to share its meanings with others
  • Shows affection towards the deities, preparing personal offering such as prayers, kirtans, foodstuffs, decoration, flowers, etc…
  • Accomplish his activities without being pushed and performs reading, writing and discussing about KC topics as a daily habit.
  • Plans his activities consciously, feeling pleasure on being accountable and dutiful.
  • Performs his services consciously, sets good example
  • Inspires respect and faith in others simply by his behavior. Start preaching to selected audience and bring good repute to ISKCON
  • Assists and encourages others to adopt clean and healthy attitudes. Corrects mistakes of others correctly. follows BG17.16
  • Is able to teach others Vaishnava etiquette and lifestyle. Can represent his teachers and gurukula properly to others
  • Performs yajna, pujas, vidhis with expertise
  • Is able to give seminars involving different aspects of prasadam. Selects at least one recipient and one area of devotee care and offers DC services
  • can run various iskcon projects like gurukula, temple, farm community, marriage bureau, deity dept, fund raising, PR, school.
  • Avoids hridaya daurbalya and asat trshna

Upashastri (Guru Ashray)

  • Give advices, teach and engage others with maturity.
  • Chants 16 rounds and has the ability to convince and encourage others to chant.
  • By his own example and activities encourage others to hear and read about Krishna Consciousness.
  • Is able to take others in pilgrimage in the holy dhams and share devotion with them
  • Involves other students in serving their lordships in devotional exchanges.
  • Internalizes the mood of Srila Prabhupada committing himself in learning more from him and engage in his mission
  • Identifies himself as a devotee, proudly and happy to be a follower of Srila Prabhupada.
  • Sees himself as an instrument in Krishna’s service.
  • high vaishnava character and behavior. Solid understanding and preaching of siddhanta. Without deviation from parampara, being loyal yet broadminded not fanatic
  • perfect lady/ gentleman. Is careful in choosing 10 items that help develop mode of goodness. SB 11.13.4 agamo apah...Understands that the maha-mantra is the best tool for having a healthy and clean existence.
  • Honorably represents Srila Prabhupada’s movement as a highly learned person in various forums
  • is stably situated in proper varna and ashrama and strictly adheres to the practices of dharma as a means of vishnu aradhana, while further cultivating strict sadhana bhakti in ISKCON
  • Is able to give seminars involving different aspects of devotee care. He can set up and run certain devotee care systems
  • can become ZS, GDO, GBC, siksa guru, educator, trainer to other leaders, SAC member and any of the top rungs of iskcon leadership and secular world leadership
  • Situates himself in Nishta(Madyamadhikari)

Types of tranings

1-Ashrama and Adhyatma shiksha

Krishna conscious training which includes morning program, bhakti shastri, Vaishnava sadachara, deity worship, yajna, preaching etc

2-Veda and varna shiksha

Teaching and training (according to inclination, capacity and talent) from amongst 14 books of Vedic knowledge and 64 arts

3-Life skills and panchkosh vikas

Basic farming and goseva, martial arts, cooking, communication, leadership, yoga, music, finance management, swimming, taalim, budgeting etc.

4-Academic excellence

Making children compatible to and capable of responding to societal challenges: dealing with media, politics, violence, peer pressure, addictions etc.

5-Social awareness and resilience

Training to enhance academic performance, to foster love for learning, to assess current level of academic achievement( knowledge skills values) and to teach study skills for achieving academic excellence.
